The Script – “The Man Who Can’t Be Moved”
May 19th
Ok, so this song really struck me, especially the hopeless romantic in me. The song is about a man who has lost the love of his life and decides to spend his days sitting on the street corner where he had first met her. That’s it, but it’s enough to be an absolutely beautiful concept for a song, and the music and vocals just add to the very mellow, very hopeless romanticism that the song encompasses. Listen to it, it’s beautiful…
“The Man Who Can’t Be Moved”
Going Back to the corner where I first saw you
Gonna camp in my sleeping bag I’m not gonna move
Got some words on cardboard, got your picture in my hand
saying, “if you see this girl can you tell her where I am”
Some try to hand me money, they don’t understand
I’m not broke I’m just a broken hearted man
I know it makes no sense but what else can I do
How can I move on when I’m still in love with you
Cause If one day you wake up and find your missing me
and your heart starts to wonder where on this earth I could be
Thinking maybe you’ll come back here to the place that we’d meet
And you’ll see me waiting for you on our corner of the street
So I’m not moving, I’m not moving
Policeman says, “son you can’t stay here”
I said, “there’s someone I’m waiting for If it’s a day, a month, a year”
Gotta stand my ground even if it rains or snows
If she changes her mind this is the first place she will go
Cause If one day you wake up and find your missing me
and your heart starts to wonder where on this earth I could be
Thinkin maybe you’ll come back here to the place that we’d meet
And you’ll see me waiting for you on our corner of the street
So I’m not moving, I’m not moving,
I’m not moving, I’m not moving
People talk about the guy that’s waiting on a girl
There are no holes in his shoes but a big hole in his world
Maybe i’ll get famous as the man who can’t be moved
Maybe you wont mean to but you’ll see me on the news
And you’ll come running to the corner
cause you’ll know it’s just for you
Im the man who can’t be moved
Chorus 2x
Going Back to the corner where I first saw you
Gonna camp in my sleeping bag I’m not gonna move
Safetysuit – “Stay”
Jan 31st
Safetysuit is one of my favorite bands, and has been ever since I first say them two years ago when they opened for 3 Doors Down. They’re music on this album ranges from beautiful ballads to pure rock songs. Every single song is amazing, and they are all fun to sing along to. I’ve already posted one of their songs (“Anywhere But Here”), and this time I’m going with their most recent single, and it comes along with a pretty bad ass video, lol.
Anyway, about the song. It’s entitled “Stay”. The song itself is about giving your all in a relationship. There are a lot of great lines, but my favorite it easily “And I’ll be here in the morning, if you say stay…”. Just absolutely beautiful.
The video takes a slightly different approach to the song, lol. In the video the band’s lead singer is an undercover cop, and he begins to fall in love with the woman that he’s supposed to be tailing. He eventually bears all to her and admits to what he is, and then allows her to beat the living shit out of him and run off so that she can remain free. It definitely fits with the song if you really listen, and it’s a very well done video.
Enjoy!
Stay
Walking out the door this morning
Wondering what it is that’s going on with you, on with you
Thinking of a way to say
I’m sorry for something that I’m not sure I do, sure I do
So come on baby let me in
And show me what this really is cuz
Something must’ve made you say that
What did I do to make you say
That to me?
Something must’ve made you so mad
What can I do
To make you say
And come back to me?
Hoping for a moment
That I turn around and you’ll be coming
After me, after me
Cuz all I can say
It that it’s obvious
It’s obvious you’re all I see
So come on baby let me in
And show me what this really is about
Cuz I can’t read you
Come on baby let me in
And show me what this really is cause
So come on baby let me in
And show me what this really is cuz
Something must’ve made you say that
What did I do to make you say
That to me?
Something must’ve made you so mad
What can I do
To make you say
And come back to me?
And I’ll be here in the morning if you say stay
If you say stay to me
(3x)
So come on baby let me in
And show me what this really is cuz
Something must’ve made you say that
What did I do to make you say
That to me?
Something must’ve made you so mad
What can I do
To make you say
And come back to me?
Lights – “Savior”
Aug 17th
Lights is a new up-and-coming artist from Canada. Yes, something good actually came out of Canada other than Robin Scherbatsky (props to those of you that get the reference, for shame to those who don’t, lol). Anyway, back to the music.
Not only is Lights absolutely stunning, she is an extremely talented singer/songwriter/keytar player. Yes, I said keytar. Her music is a little bit techno, a little bit pop, and a lot of electonica. In her own words, her music is “intergalactic”.
Savior is the debut track off of her soon-to-be released debut album, “The Listening”. It’s a very fun song, and if you really listen to the lyrics you’ll find them very meaningful. Lyrics and video below… check it out and enjoy!
Savior
The night is deafening when the silence is listening
And I’m down on my knees, and I know that something is missing.
Because the back of my mind is holding things I’m relying in
But I choose to ignore it because I’m always denying them
I’m a bit of a manic when it’s not as I plan it
Cause I start losing my head and then I get up in a panic
Remember when we were kids and always knew when to quit it
Are we denying a crisis or are we scared of admitting it?
I don’t want to know
I just want to run to you
And break off the chains, and throw them away
I just want to be so much
And shake off the dust that turned me to rust
Sooner than later, I’ll need a savior, I’ll need a saviour
It won’t ever change if you want it to stay the same
I really hate it but I know it’s hard to choose if you’re chained
And when it’s all you control cause you’ve got nothing else to hold
You’re getting tighter and tighter, it’s getting harder to let it go
I don’t want to know
I just want to run to you
And break off the chains, and throw them away
I just want to be so much
And shake off the dust that turned me to rust
Sooner than later, I’ll need a saviour
I’ll need a saviour
Stand me up and maybe I won’t be so small
Free my hands and feet and maybe I won’t always fall…
save me
I just want to run to you
And break off the chains, and throw them away
I just want to be so much
And shake off the dust that turned me to rust
I just want to run to you
and break off the chains and throw them away
I just want to be so much
and shake off the dust that turned me to rust
Sooner than later, I’ll need a saviour
I’ll need a saviour
Halestorm – “I Get Off”
Aug 6th
Halestorm is a band that I only got into about a month ago, but they’re absolutely fantastic. “I Get Off” is their debut single, and it’s definitely worth listening to at least once.
The entire song is about getting off on being watched, and on the first listen you think that it’s all about sex. The real inspiration and meaning behind the song is actually quite different. Lzzy Hale (lead singer) apparently explained in an interview that the song is actually about the rush the band gets from performing on stage. Either way you look at it, the song is great, and it’s a lot of fun.
My other favorites from the album include “Familiar Taste of Poison”, “I’m Not an Angel”, and “Love/Hate Heartbreak”.
I Get Off
You don’t know that I know,
You watch me every night
And I just can’t resist the urge
To stand here in the light
You’re greedy eyes upon me
And then i come undone
And I could close the curtains
But this too much fun
[Chorus:]
I get off on you
Getting off on me
I give you what you want
But nothing is for free
It’s a give and take
Kinda life we make
When your line is crossed
I get off
I get off
So much left unspoken
Between the two of us
It’s so much more exciting
To look when you can touch
You could say I am different
And maybe am afraid
But I know how to twist ya
To bring you to your kness
[Chorus:]
I get off on you
Getting off on me
I give you what you want
But nothing is for free
It’s give and take
Kinda life we make
When your line is crossed
I get off
I get off
But you don’t know
But you can’t see
It’s what you forgive
Out here for me
[Pre-Chorus:]
I get off on you
Getting off on me
I give you what you want
Yeaaaaaaaaa…
[Chorus]
I get off on you
Getting off on me
I give you what you want
But nothing is for free
It’s a give and take
Kinda life we make
When your line is crossed
I get off
I get off
YEaa….I get off
YEaa….I get off
I get off
Jewel – “Kiss the Flame”
Jul 5th
Jewel has always been one of my favorite artists. Her lyrics and vocals are absolutely beautiful, and her instrumentals are always very relaxing, and never overdone. Just plain, simple, beautiful music…
Kiss the Flame is one of my favorite songs from Jewel. It’s a song about wanting a love that is not filled with all the lies and double standards that are so common in our world. A love that can brave everything, that can weather any storm, and that could last for ages. It is a song of having hope that true love exists, that it’s out there, and that it might possibly be within reach…
Kiss the Flame
Please love let’s make no impartial vow
Let all fall away
That’s not crucial now
I want a brave love, one that makes me weak in the knees
I want a crazy, crazy love
One that makes me come undone at the seams
‘Cause I’m tired of all these pilgrims, these puritans, these thieves
Of all these unbelievers
who whittle love down at the knees
Let these swift roads destroy themselves
Let the world fall into its sleep
For we shall be spared
We shall be left standing
To face what’s left of concrete and honey
Kiss the flame
Let’s run with the hunted, the untamed
Kiss the flame
Embrace the faceless, the unnamed
Kiss the flame
There are nightmares on the sidewalks
There are jokes on TV
There are people selling thoughtlessness
with such casualty
But wherefore art thou Romeo
where have all the brave men gone
Show me one man who know his own heart
To him I shall belong
Kiss the flame
Let’s run with the hunted, the untamed
Kiss the flame
Embrace the faceless, the unnamed
Kiss the flame
Kiss the flame
Kiss the flame
Please love let’s make no impartial vow
Daniel Powter – “Bad Day”
May 24th
Well, I’m back (finally). Sorry for the long hiatus, but you know, shit happens. This week’s song is an older, but still fantastic, song: “Bad Day” by Daniel Powter. I’ve heard this wong referred to as the happiest sad song ever written, and I am inclined to agree. A beautiful song about hope and love, even when everything is going wrong.
If you’ve never heard this song, I highly suggest that you do so.
Bad Day
Where is the moment when needed the most
You kick up the leaves and the magic is lost
They tell me your blue skies fade to grey
They tell me your passion’s gone away
And I don’t need no carryin’ on
You stand in the line just to hit a new low
You’re faking a smile with the coffee you go
You tell me your life’s been way off line
You’re falling to pieces everytime
And I don’t need no carryin’ on
‘Cause you had a bad day
You’re taking one down
You sing a sad song just to turn it around
You say you don’t know
You tell me don’t lie
You work on a smile and you go for a ride
You had a bad day
The camera don’t lie
You’re coming back down and you really don’t mind
You had a bad day
You had a bad day
Well you need a blue sky holiday
The point is they laugh at what you say
And I don’t need no carryin’ on
You had a bad day
You’re taking one down
You sing a sad song just to turn it around
You say you don’t know
You tell me don’t lie
You work on a smile and you go for a ride
You had a bad day
The camera don’t lie
You’re coming back down and you really don’t mind
You had a bad day
(Oh.. Holiday..)
Sometimes the system goes on the brink
And the whole thing turns out wrong
You might not make it back and you know
That you could be well all that strong
And I’m not wrong
So where is the passion when you need it the most
Oh you and I
You kick up the leaves and the magic is lost
Cause you had a bad day
You’re taking one down
You sing a sad song just to turn it around
You say you don’t know
You tell me don’t lie
You work on a smile and you go for a ride
You had a bad day
You’ve seen what you like
And how does it feel for one more time
You had a bad day
You had a bad day
Had a bad day
Had a bad day
Artist – Collide
Apr 9th
Ok, I’ll admit it, I’ve been bad. I haven’t been updating nearly as much as I would like to be… The problem is that I can’t seem to find the time (and they blocked pretty much the entire internet at work…). I will do my best to get better, but I can’ t really make any promises. Sorry.
So, I figured that since it’s been a while since I’ve put anything up I would forego the single song this week and instead have an Artist of the week. And, obviously, that artist is Collide. Collide is an Industrial Metal band that has some of the most amazing music ever. The background music is fairly exotic and trippy, Karin’s vocals are smooth and soothing, and everything meshes together to make some music that is easy to enjoy, and great to just sti back and relax to. If you’ve never listened to any of their stuff, I highly suggest you give it a shot.
Holly Brook – “Curious”
Mar 28th
This week’s Song comes from the same artist as the last post, Holly Brook. She is such an amazing artist, and her entire album (Like Blood, Like Honey) is so amazing that I thought she deserved a second week on the blog.
“Curious” is a beautiful song about confusion and trying to find your way. When everything seems to blow up in your face and you don’t know what else to do, and you finally cave in and start asking for help. You may feel like a complete fool, but you know that things will eventually get better, and in the end you’ll find your way to where you belong.
If you want something a little more upbeat, I suggest checking out Holly Brook’s MySpace age and checking out the song “High and Low”. It’s a little bit hip-hop, a little bit of her usual softness, and a whole lot of fun. Anyway, here are the lyrics for this week’s Song…
Curious
Someone tell me what to do
I feel like I must be a fool
For ending up right back at the start
The things that we don’t comprehend
Are laughing at my mind again
I think that I think too hard
And I don’t give enough credit to my heart
I’m so
Damn curious to know
And there are too
Many unanswered questions
Then we hold on to
I’ve put my theories to the test
You know I’ve tried to do my best
But maybe we weren’t meant to strike gold
Sometimes things that you ignore
Are all the things I’m looking for
Will I learn to let go
Give into love and listen to my soul
I’m so
Damn curious to know
And there are too
Many unanswered questions
Then we hold on to
Portraits of your loved ones
Are more than what you see
All the elements they capture
Are more to you than me
A different dimension we’ve yet to define
There’s a forest to cut through with thorns and vines
There is no reason to try
Holly Brook – “Heavy”
Mar 14th
I’m back after a bit of a hiatus there. I apologize for the dealy, but life can sometimes get in the way of everything else, as I’m sure you already know. Anyway, onto the Song of the Week!
“Heavy”, but my all time favorite artist, Holly Brook. This is an absolutely breathtaking song about love and wanting to be there for someone without reservation or judgement. About wanting to know all there is to know about them, and wanting them to know the same about you. The metaphors are wonderfully done, the piano work is fantastic, and the vocals are too perfect to be simply defined. Enjoy!
Heavy
Now I’ve come to cry
Shed your skin to rest my naked eye and criticize
All that I implore seems to be one foot outside that door
Coming between me and waking
Underneath the corset of your mystery
Piece by piece, undress you from your history
I’m sleeping with seclusion in sweet disarray
You can go heavy on me
And I will not weigh you down, down, down
You can be steady and clean
I can take it heavy on me
And I will not weigh you down, no
Born unto this pride
Silence is something you can’t hide
You can’t deny us, oh
Nothing has been said, yet so many words have filled my head
Now they completely surround me
Tie the lines of honest conductivity
Caught between the center of our gravity
I don’t have that much time to burn anymore
You can go heavy on me
And I will not weigh you down, down, down
You can be steady and clean
I can take it heavy on me
And I will not weigh you down
Underneath the corset of your mystery
Piece by piece, undress you from your history
I’m sleeping with seclusion in sweet disarray, ah
You can go heavy on me
And I will not weigh you down, down, down
You can be steady and clean
I can take it heavy on me
And I will not weigh you down, no
I will not weigh you down
Evanescence – Good Enough
Feb 23rd
Sorry about missing a few weeks here, work completely blocked the internet, so no more working on the site or updating the blog during lunch. Anyway, on to this week’s Song.
One of Evanescence’s greatest songs: Good Enough. From the first moment I heard it I realized how powerful the song was, and after listening to it a few times the song’s lyrics struck so many chords within me that it brought tears to my eyes.
The entire song is about the beauty of a completely true love, one that burns with such an intense fire that you can’t see or comprehend anything going on outside of the world that you’ve created with your significant other. Nothing seems real, and while the fire is burning so perfectly, you’re constantly waiting for the rain to come and wash aways all that you know and love, all that you’ve fallen for, all that is causing the flames within to fade away completely. Even though you feel like it’s all going to end, you can’t pull yourself out, and you’ll do anything to keep your love alive, and because of that you simply cannot bring yourself to say no to the one you love.
Anyway, enough of my rambling. I love this song, and I hope that you do too. Check out the video (it’s on YouTube)… it complements the song perfectly and is just as beautiful (Amy Lee is absolutely amazing). Enjoy.
Good Enough
Under your spell again.
I can’t say no to you.
Crave my heart and it’s bleeding in your hand.
I can’t say no to you.
Shouldn’t let you torture me so sweetly.
Now I can’t let go of this dream.
I can’t breathe but I feel…
Good enough,
I feel good enough for you.
Drink up sweet decadence.
I can’t say no to you,
And I’ve completely lost myself, and I don’t mind.
I can’t say no to you.
Shouldn’t let you conquer me completely.
Now I can’t let go of this dream.
Can’t believe that I feel…
Good enough,
I feel good enough.
It’s been such a long time coming, but I feel good.
And I’m still waiting for the rain to fall.
Pour real life down on me.
‘Cause I can’t hold on to anything this good enough.
Am I good enough for you to love me too?
So take care what you ask of me,
’cause I can’t say no.
