On Life and Love…

Well, I figured that I would do a bit of writing (or rambling, you decide) on life and love, or at least of what I have gathered in my 22 years…
The most prominent truth that I have discovered is that life has no concern for us. It will happen when you don’t want it to, it won’t happen when you want it to, and when you finally think you have it figured out, well, that’s when life likes to kick your ass. No matter what you try, life will always go the way it wants. It’s like a raging river…even if you throw a dam up in front of it, that river will eventually find a way through. Either it’s going to shatter your blockade, or it will slip around a different way unnoticed…
Love seems to be very similar: unfair, without care for us or our plans, happening without warning… I have found it very true that the only time that love seems to blossom is when you have finally given up on it. If you’re looking, good luck, but you most likely won’t find true love, just the primal instinct of lust. Really, when you get down to the point, love is really just a pretty, civilized form of lust. Someone decided to take our most primal instinct (to reproduce) and dress it up in a damned tux. Granted, it looks damn good, but it’s a bit stiff…
My biggest question about life and love is this: Why do we care so much about the future? Why, when everything we know could be washed away in the blink of an eye? In the past month I’ve made more progress with living for the day than I have in years. In the past month I’ve driven around aimlessly, just because I wanted to. I’ve gone to visit friends and loved ones at midnight, just to see them smile. I’ve built things just because I could, bought things because I wanted them, went places just because I felt like it. That’s what life should be: a constant adventure. I hate knowing that I have to get up every day during the week to go to work… but at the same time it makes my nights and weekends all the more exciting, since adventure seems much more daring when compared to the dullness of work…
If you’re still reading this, and if you understand what I’m trying to say, I have a challenge for you: live life for the moment, if only for a day. Say yes to a random invite to do something crazy, build something with your own two hands, call up an old friend just to say hi (or better yet, surprise them at work/home), hug a perfect stranger, steal a kiss from that one special person in your life, watch the sunset set its time, listen to a record, go for a walk/drive/bike ride without a destination. Be free. Live for the moment, seize the day, live life, love, scream, cry, laugh, sing… do whatever you need. I promise you, if you take one day to do any (or all if you’re truly ambitious) of this, you won’t regret it, and I’ll bet that you find yourself doing it again next month. Soon you’ll be doing it every week, and eventually you’ll start to wonder where that stick went that was up your ass, and you’ll smile, and you’ll know that you’ve reclaimed the one thing that belongs to only you: your life and your love.
Even when the world seems darkest, there’s always a silver lining. As long as you never give up, and as long as you keep yourself open, things will work out. You never know, lightning could strike and change your world in an instant…
You’re beautiful, never forget that, and never let anyone tell you otherwise.
Lights – “Savior”

Lights is a new up-and-coming artist from Canada. Yes, something good actually came out of Canada other than Robin Scherbatsky (props to those of you that get the reference, for shame to those who don’t, lol). Anyway, back to the music.
Not only is Lights absolutely stunning, she is an extremely talented singer/songwriter/keytar player. Yes, I said keytar. Her music is a little bit techno, a little bit pop, and a lot of electonica. In her own words, her music is “intergalactic”.
Savior is the debut track off of her soon-to-be released debut album, “The Listening”. It’s a very fun song, and if you really listen to the lyrics you’ll find them very meaningful. Lyrics and video below… check it out and enjoy!

Twitter…!

Well, I finally sold off a peice of my soul and joined the massive ranks of Twitter users.
Don’t know what Twitter is? It’s a global network that allows users to post quick tidbits of information (called “Tweets”) informing other users about what their doing…
I figure it will be a good way to get news out about the website, since it can be kind of tough to figure out when there’s new content added. I’ll post a tweet whenever I add new content to the website or new blogs.

Random Updates and Rants

Ok, fair warning, this is going to be all over the place, lol. Still with me? Don’t say I didn’t warn you….
So, where to begin? I started a new story, but you’ll never see it, too strictly based in events in my life that I’m not sure should be shared at the moment. Maybe in a few years, but we’ll see what happens. It’s actually quite beautiful, and if I decide that I can’t use the story as a whole, I’m sure that I’ll use parts of if in some of my other work…

I’ve gotten addicted to a new show: Reaper. It’s interesting. It’s a comedy, and the main character (Sam) is a bounty hunter for the devil. The entire show is him catching souls that have escaped from hell, all the while dealing with the fact that his parents sold his soul to the devil, and trying to figure out how he can have his own life while still doing the devil’s work. It’s absolutely hilarious.
Did a lot of random driving around this weekend, something in the ballpark of 300 miles. Didn’t go anywhere, just drove around for a couple of hours. It was refreshing, and exacty what I needed. Listened to really loud music, escaped from all the damned problems and concerns in my life (my job, my personal life, all of it), and just let the road take me wherever…
Not all that much important going on in my life. I’m still trying to figure out if Im going to go into the Air Force ASAP, or if I’m going to stay here and go back to Penn State Berks on my own. Either way I’d be going to school, I guess I’m just waiting around to see if there’s anything worth hanging around here for… There only really one thing that would keep me here, and as of yet it hasn’t even hapened. If it does come to fruition, maybe it would actually be worth hanging around this place a little longer. If it doesn’t, I can’t really see any reason to stay around… There isn’t any commitment or responsibility holding me here, so why not Air Force…? I don’t know, guess I’ll just have to wait around and see…
Still waiting to hear from my aunt about a possible free-lance writing oppotunity, but until I hear from her I’m just assuming that nothing will happen…

Halestorm – “I Get Off”

Halestorm is a band that I only got into about a month ago, but they’re absolutely fantastic. “I Get Off” is their debut single, and it’s definitely worth listening to at least once.
The entire song is about getting off on being watched, and on the first listen you think that it’s all about sex. The real inspiration and meaning behind the song is actually quite different. Lzzy Hale (lead singer) apparently explained in an interview that the song is actually about the rush the band gets from performing on stage. Either way you look at it, the song is great, and it’s a lot of fun.
My other favorites from the album include “Familiar Taste of Poison”, “I’m Not an Angel”, and “Love/Hate Heartbreak”.

Jewel has always been one of my favorite artists. Her lyrics and vocals are absolutely beautiful, and her instrumentals are always very relaxing, and never overdone. Just plain, simple, beautiful music…

Well, I’m back (finally). Sorry for the long hiatus, but you know, shit happens. This week’s song is an older, but still fantastic, song: “Bad Day” by Daniel Powter. I’ve heard this wong referred to as the happiest sad song ever written, and I am inclined to agree. A beautiful song about hope and love, even when everything is going wrong.

Random Updates…!
Apr 19th
Not really all that much going on in my life at the moment. I’ll be going on vacation in a couple of weeks. Hopefully I’ll be able to get some writing done, along with some other stuff that I’ve been putting off. I’ll try to post some pictures whenI get back.
I’ve had a lot of notifications about people registering for the blog, and I’m happy that people seem interested in it. I have no idea who any of them are, and I haven’t really seen comments from anyone, but it’s still cool to know that people like what I’m doing… Know that you can always e-mail me with suggestions for content, and you are always more than welcome to post comments on the site.
As for other updates, like I said, there isn’t much. I got a new laptop (I’m writing this on my back deck with a soda , listening to Lauren Pritchard, lol). Other than that I’ve just been doing what I always do: playing video games, watching movies, working, and playing around with my computers…
Anyway, just wanted to let everyone know that I was still here and stil kicking… just waiting for something worth writing about to happen, then I’ll have something to add to all this… For now I leave you with my favorite farewell:

Ok, I’ll admit it, I’ve been bad. I haven’t been updating nearly as much as I would like to be… The problem is that I can’t seem to find the time (and they blocked pretty much the entire internet at work…). I will do my best to get better, but I can’ t really make any promises. Sorry.
So, I figured that since it’s been a while since I’ve put anything up I would forego the single song this week and instead have an Artist of the week. And, obviously, that artist is Collide. Collide is an Industrial Metal band that has some of the most amazing music ever. The background music is fairly exotic and trippy, Karin’s vocals are smooth and soothing, and everything meshes together to make some music that is easy to enjoy, and great to just sti back and relax to. If you’ve never listened to any of their stuff, I highly suggest you give it a shot.
