Damien Rice – “Cannonball”
Dec 17th
This weeks Song is “Cannonball” by Damien Rice. If you have never heard this song, make it the first thing on your to-do list. It is an absolutely beautiful song about life, about love, and about accepting the lesson you’re taught every day, no matter how twisted or bizarre (…life taught me to die…).
Rice’s voice is wonderfully melodic in this, an every other of his, song. The instrumental is gentle and flows beautifully, and it merely enhances the lyrics rather than taking over. Most of Damien Rice’s songs are like this.
RiceĀ is a true poet when it comes to his lyrics, and many must be thought about before they can be understood. I started you off with a simple one of his songs this week, and maybe in weeks to come I will post a few of his more complex songs. I just didn’t want to scare you off…
Cannonball
there’s still a little bit of your taste
in my mouth
there’s still a little bit of you laced
with my doubt
it’s still a little hard to say
..what’s going on
there’s still a little bit of your ghost
your weakness
there’s still a little bit of your face
I haven’t kissed
you step a little closer each day
and I can’t say what’s going on
stones taught me to fly
love, it taught me to lie
life, it taught me to die
so it’s not hard to fall
when you float like a cannonball
there’s still a little bit of your song
in my ear
there’s still a little bit of your words
I long to hear
you step a little closer to me
so close that I cant see what’s going on..
and stones, taught me to fly
love, it taught me to lie
life taught me to die
so its not hard to fall
when you float like a cannon..
stones taught me to fly
love; it taught me to cry
so come on courage
teach me to be shy
cause it’s not hard to fall
and i don’t want to scare her
it’s not hard to fall
and I don’t want to lose
it’s not hard to grow
when you know that you just…don’t know…
