Duncan Sheik – “Half-Life”
Jan 20th
This week’s song is by an amazingly deep artist that I only recently began listening to: Duncan Sheik. All of his music is beautiful, and all of it makes you think about life and love when you listen to it, yet all of it is gentle and relaxing. “Half-Life” is the epitome of all those things.
A song about finally realizing that something is missing in your life, whether it be love, meaning, friendship, or any countless number of other things. In the end you realize that all you really need to do is step back (into the “daylight” maybe) and think. Once you’ve removed yourself from everything and concentrated on it for a while, you begin to realize that it’s all there, you just need to renew it all (“Come on let’s fall in love, again”). Everything is still there, meaning, beauty, love, friendship, it just needs to be recognized and renewed every now and again. Once that renewal has taken place, things seem fresh and you can move on from your “half-life” and continue on down life’s path with a smile on your face.
Enjoy.
Half-Life
Afternoon, I fell asleep in the living room.
and it’s one of those moments
when everything is so clear.
before the truth goes back into hiding
I want to decide ’cause it’s worth deciding
to work on findin’ something more than this fear.
It takes so much out of me to pretend
Tell me now, tell me how to make amends
Maybe, I need to see the daylight
leave behind the half-life
don’t you see I’m breaking down?
Oh lately, something here don’t feel right
this is just a half-life
is there really no escape
no escape from time
of any kind?
I keep trying to understand
this thing and that thing, my fellow man
I guess I’ll let you know when I figure it out
And I don’t mind a few mysteries
they can stay that way, it’s fine by me
but you are another mystery I am missing
it takes too much out of me to pretend
Maybe, I need to see the daylight
leave behind the half-life
don’t you see I’m breaking down?
Oh lately, something here don’t feel right
is this just a half-life?
is there really no escape
no escape from time
of any kind?
come on, let’s fall in love
come on, let’s fall in love
come on, lets fall in love, again
Cause lately, something here don’t feel right
This is just a half-life
Without you I am breaking down
Oh wake me, I wanna see the daylight
save me from this half-life
Let’s you and I escape
escape from time.
come on, let’s fall in love
come on, let’s fall in love
come on, let’s fall in love, again.
